Bridgerton-inspired homes and design tips

Netflix’s steamy Regency period drama, Bridgerton, returned to our screens this month to thrill its viewers once again with royal romances, dashing Dukes and beautiful period properties. On our quest to instill the Regency and Georgian eras into our lives, Fine & Country Property Staging share their top Bridgerton-inspired home design tips with a contemporary twist, as well as quintessential homes on the market that would fit perfectly in the series.

Wisteria

The first Bridgerton family home seen in the Netflix series is an elegant Georgian property, which currently serves as an art museum in Greenwich, London, called Ranger’s House. Wisteria and Ivy were added to the exterior of the residence to make the property feel more enchanting.

Faux wisteria won't be necessary at this beautiful country home in the sought-after Grwyne Fawr valley. This much loved family home extended and improved over the past 60 years still retains much of the character of its 18th-century origins. Set in an elevated position, this home offers breathtaking panoramic views across the spectacular mature gardens to the countryside and mountains of the Brecon Beacons/ Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

Symmetry

A key feature of Georgian architecture and interior design is symmetry. Mirroring elements such as furniture, fixtures and use of colours on both sides of a space creates balance and harmony. A symmetrical space can look fashionable and make a statement when done correctly. Be careful to not create two identical halves to avoid creating a space that is boring.

With five bedrooms in he main house, the property is positioned within circa 1 acre of grounds and landscaped walled gardens (stm). This beautiful property boasts large reception rooms, a stunning open plan kitchen and entertaining space overlooking the formal landscaped gardens to the rear. The high standard of finishings is evident throughout including the beautiful bedrooms, bespoke carpentry, and high-quality bathrooms.

Adorn with details

Brass architectural ironmongery is typical of the Regency era to create beautiful furnishings, taps, light fittings and door handles, complimented by gold-painted picture frames hanging on the walls, glass chandeliers and elegant marble tabletops. For a modern take on this classic style, adopt a more muted colour palette combined with glass ornaments, elaborate chandeliers, grand mirrors, marble-effect surfaces and ornate ironmongery in black or other darker shades. The buildings and décor of the Regency era was inspired by Egyptian, Gothic, classical Greek and Roman, and Indian styles. Consider introducing classic artwork from these regions. Go even bigger with fitted columns and statues.

With a striking column-flanked entrance, Deerpark, is one of two facing matched original buildings and offers very flexible accommodation. The distinctive character home has four bedrooms, all of which are versatile, plus there is a standalone one-bedroom annexe for a guest suite. The quirky features of this property, which include the curved ceiling in the long hallway and the columns, built originally for its purpose as hunting dog kennels, are typical of a Lutyens property and add charm, with a lot of the original features including doors and the fireplace surround, plus the original fireplace has been kept so it can be reinstated. The roof is particularly interesting feature and built of hard-wearing traditional local Horsham stone.

Façades

Many buildings of the Regency style have a white-painted stucco façade as well as elegant wrought iron balconies and bow windows. Whereas most earlier Georgian housing for the middle classes had little ornament, the Regency period brought modest architectural pretensions to a much wider range of buildings.
